TWO PLUS ONE DOES NOT NECESSARILY EQUAL THREE
We have adopted a new cat. Now "we" means me and my two previously owned and loved cats, Alice and Olive. Was this adoption by choice? No, we were a happy trio, a widow and two dear cats. However the death of a friend led to an orphaned older cat with nowhere to go and no one to care. I brought her home, temporarily I assured the other "girls". I quickly learned bringing home a spoiled cat meant loading my car with two cat beds, three scratching posts a wicker basket filled with toys, two litter boxes and a case of "special food" for unknown allergies.
Going on line I read advice from several experts on how one introduces a new cat to a home previously occupied by cats. My first move was to establish a special room for our new guest. I labeled the bedroom The Cat Hilton because by the time I moved her into this bedroom it was completely taken over with her possessions. "Keep the new cat isolated" was the first step I followed. Closing the door with it's occupant safely inside I felt confident all would go well. I had even brought a blanket used by her previous owner to give her the scent of home and love. All would go well I assured myself.
I will continue this blog with the ongoing saga of Two Plus One Does Not Necessarily Equal Three at a later date. I hope you will develop sympathy for the writer as you read of our steps to adoption.
Judy,
ReplyDeleteNot sure why my previous post didn't show, but I wanted to post something so that you can see what it looks like.
Good luck with the new family.
Thanks Tommy. I wondered why I didn't see anything from you. Would you like to adopt a cat? or two?
